This list is always changing, some songs will stay on my top ten list for a long time, but eventually they will be replaced and maybe show back up another time. I tend to listen to albums more than individual songs. Right now these are the songs I have been listening to more than anything else though.
- Legacy - by Eminem. This song is one that really stood out to me off of Eminem's newest album. It starts with him explaining how he was an awkward kid who wasn't treated well by the other kids because he didn't quite fit in. It then goes on to tell how he found something that set him apart and how he was able to make something of himself and gain confidence because he wasn't like everyone else. It's a song that I can identify with in many ways
- This Time Imperfect - by AFI. This song is one that I've only started listening to recently. It is a very powerful song that seems to just knock me on my ass with emotion. I can't even explain how much I identify with this song. I have been listening to this song over and over lately because I still haven't quite absorbed it fully.
- Thick As a Brick - by Jethro Tull. I've been listening to this song since I was a a teenager. I have always liked the melody changes and the lyrical progression. This is a 45 minute song with a fictional story behind it about an eight year old kid who wrote this poem that won a prestigious award for literary ability, but the award was taken back and instead given to a girl who wrote a mediocre religious poem. The boy was then recommended for counciling to help him with his unhealthy ideas about life, country, and God.
- Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun - by Pink Floyd. I have always liked the mellow sound of this song and the metaphorical nature of the lyrics.
- Float - by Flogging Molly. This song is very introspective and touching. It makes me think about how things always have a silver lining and the future is a better place than the past.
- Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle - by Nirvana. I've liked this song since I first heard it. It is a location specific song and wouldn't really mean much to anyone outside seattle. It reminds me of being a teenager in Seattle through the grunge rock scene in the early 90's.
- Atlantic City - by Hank Williams III. There are very few songs that can put a chill in my bones like this one does. It is a story of desperation and final chances.
- The Human Game - by Lisa Gerrard. This song is about new relationships and building a connection with someone as the feelings toward each other grow.
- Breakdown - by Guns n Roses. This is one of Axle Rose's unusual philosophical songs. It's got a really interesting theme to it that I have always liked.
- The End - by The Doors. This song always makes me imagine the final scene in Apocalypse Now as the colonel is ambushed and killed with a machete at the same time a cow is hacked to pieces in some ritualistic ceremony. The intensity of the end of the song is captivating.
